Colchicine and Coronavirus I join a group for Mediterranean Fever because I was given Colchicine because my Lupus attacked my abdominal. Colchicine is used for the treatment of Mediterranean Fever and gout. I was given an interesting email from this group to draw awareness on how Colchicine will help during the COVID19 epidemic and it speaks about more medications being tested for COVID 19 I wanted you all to read. nfo letter from Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gül regarding FMF, treatment and COVID 19 Dear family of Mediterranean fever patients, During the COVID-19 epidemic, which is spreading rapidly in our country and around the world, you or your relatives may be affected by this infection in any way. Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is not a disease that lowers immunity. Disease-causing mutations can lead to increased inflammation in the event of an infection. Colchicine is a medication that balances the increased inflammatory response and keeps it at a normal level. It does not suppress immunity. Therefore, our Mediterranean family fever patients should not stop taking colchicine and continue to take the recommended dose. With COVID-19 disease, the worsening of the disease develops because the body’s immune response is very seriously affected and damages itself. For this reason, it is of great importance that familial Mediterranean fever patients are able to compensate for their inflammatory reactions by taking colchicine. Research is currently underway to determine whether colchicine administration to healthy people in Canada and Italy can prevent COVID-19 disease. We recommend that our patients who are using Kineret (Anakinra) or Ilaris (Kanakinumab) do not stop taking these medicines because they do not respond adequately to colchicine. In particular, we would like to point out that the drug Kineret is considered a treatment option for patients who develop pneumonia due to COVID-19 disease. We ask that you take your medication without interruption and stay at home to avoid the virus. During this epidemic period, there may be a large number of people who appear healthy among you but are contagious. For this reason, it is important to limit contact with the outside environment during your stay at home. Our last request is to share this information with us about the club if you have experience of the disease. Collecting and correctly evaluating the information will be very helpful in combating the epidemic. I greet you and your relatives and wish you healthy and happy days. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gul This letter was made available to us by Prof. Dr.Ahmet Gül as an email to FAROMDER Solidarity Association for the rare autoinflammatory, autoimmune and rheumatic diseases.

This made my day! I have been on Colchicine (as well as Plaquenil) for 2 years, since I developed Lupus pericarditis. Maybe we will be ok!
